Nicknomination: (N) - common cultural practice of unofficially inducting a person or place into a social circle or geographical/topographical world via nicknaming, an act which seems to legitimize or nominate a place for more legitimate/solid stature in that community Example 1: Sherman Market, a small business connected to the popular Sherman Cafe, which sells local, usually organic, often expensive food (relative to less healthy/small-farm/business-supporting competitor groceries) from a storefront on Union Square, which for a variety of reasons relating to this, as well as interior design, has been nicknamed "the Food Museum," thus seemingly elevating its status to a destination, and a part of the group, whether that group be one of people or places. Example 2: The Independent, the most popular local watering hole and restaurant within this particular community, and a Union Square standard, has been nicknamed "The Food Store," in reference to its status as a more common destination for food procurement than grocers or other establishments. Example 3: A local business leader complaining to me, "Everyone has nicknames but me. Don't they like me?"
